Specifications for Painting
Exterior Surfaces
I. Exterior Paint and Coating System
A.
Shall be
commercially sandblasted to SSPC-SP6 before painting unless
otherwise specified by customer. Use #30 grit sand approved for
outdoor blasting. Desired surface profile is 2 mils.
B.
After
preparation surfaces must be sound, dry and free of oil, grease,
dirt, mildew, release agents, curing compounds, loose or flaking
paint and other foreign substances. Any dust or dirt that has
accumulated on surfaces between coatings should be removed
before applying a new coat.
C.
Exterior shall
be primed with Bar-Rust 235 Epoxy Primer or other primer as
specified by customer. Coating thickness shall be in accordance
with
Coating
Manufacture’s or the customer’s standard.
D.
Drying time and
Recoat windows are to be observed. Exceeding the
maximum
time for recoat will require additional surface roughening of
the
underlying
layer to prevent delamination of the new coat.
E.
Intermediate
Coat may be required per customer with coating type and
thickness specified.
F.
Exterior shall
be top-coated with Devthane 379 Urethane Finish (Navejo
Beige Standard;
Other colors available per customer request).
Follow coating
manufacture’s recommendations for mixing, thinning, application,
film thickness and cleanup. Report any difficulties or
deviations to the shop supervisor immediately.
